We're on a mission to rescue 100,000 kilos of cherries.
Every summer, millions of kilos of cherries get knocked back by supermarkets for how they look, not how they taste. We work with growers in Young and Griffith (NSW) and Yarck (VIC) to buy those cherries at a fair price and get them from the farm to your door.
Why supermarkets reject cherries (and why we don't)
A little wonky.
Odd shape, same sweet taste.
Blemished.
A mark on the skin, nothing wrong inside.
Missing stem.
Lost on the way off the tree. One less thing to pull off.
A bit too small.
Smaller cherry, same big flavour.
What's the impact of cherry beauty standards?
Rain at the wrong time cracks and splits cherries, and retailers reject them. Growers still carry the full cost of growing them, so those losses can push farms to the brink. Fewer farms means less supply and higher prices for everyone.

How Farmers Pick is supporting local farmers.
We buy the cherries supermarkets won't, at a fair price. Growers recover their costs, good food stays out of landfill, and you get Aussie cherries for less.
How to store cherries and keep them fresh
Storing cherries.
Pop them straight in the fridge in the bag they arrive in, which is designed to keep them fresh. Hold off washing them until you're ready to eat.
Washing and pitting.
Wash just before eating. No cherry pitter? Push the pip out with a reusable metal straw.
Freezing cherries.
Wash, dry and pit them, then spread them on a lined tray and freeze. Move them to a container or zip-lock bag and keep frozen for up to 3 months. Use straight from frozen in smoothies, baking and desserts.

Completely safe. Supermarkets knock them back for looks, not quality: they might be a bit wonky, small, blemished or missing a stem. The taste is the same.
Keep them in the fridge in the bag they arrive in, and wash them just before eating. Best to consume within 7 days.
