Did you know?
Not Every Cherry Can Make It to the Shelves
Supermarkets reject millions of cherries because of one silly reason….
You’ve probably seen those beautiful, uniform, bright red cherries at the supermarket this time of year. Unfortunately, that beauty comes at a cost.
Supermarkets set unrealistic beauty standards for cherries, leading to millions being wasted each year. Even worse, it’s all for looks. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the taste of these cherries!
That’s why every year, we team up with local growers to rescue these perfectly imperfect cherries and deliver them straight from the farm to your door.
Supermarkets Reject Cherries That Are....
-
A little wonky -
Slightly blemished -
Missing their stems -
Just a bit too small
How Do Cherry Beauty Standards Impact Farmers (and You)?
Growing cherries is always a gamble for farmers. These delicate fruits are highly vulnerable to weather shifts and disease, and even a bit of rain at the wrong time can cause cracking or splitting, making them “imperfect” by supermarket standards and rejected by major retailers.
When that happens, farmers are left with little choice but to throw away a large portion of their crop.
Because farmers bear all the growing costs themselves, every rejected harvest delivers a major financial hit. For some, it can even mean shutting down their farms entirely.
For consumers, this results in a smaller supply and, ultimately, higher prices, making cherries harder for everyone to enjoy.
How Farmers Pick Is Supporting Local Farmers
We’ve partnered with local farmers to fairly purchase and rescue cherries that would otherwise be rejected by supermarkets and major retailers, helping to ease the financial burden on growers.
Not only will you enjoy cherries that taste just as delicious as their “perfect” counterparts, but you’ll also make a positive impact on the environment and support your local farming community.
Still Thinking? Don't Take Too Long....
Cause we made a pretty big bet with Santa!
Let’s just say Josh, our co-founder, has been a bit… less than nice this year (he’s sensitive to the word “naughty”).
To avoid getting coal from Santa, he’s promised to rescue 140,000 KILOS of cherries.
Don’t worry, we’ve even negotiated with the big man himself to reduce your naughty points every time you buy a box.
So if, for anyyyyy reason, you’re not confident you’ll make it to the nice list this year (hey, no judgement), a box of cherries maybe could help!
